Preliminary Product Set (PPS)

The GlobColour PPS and project as a whole was presented to the combined GlobCOLOUR/Medspiration community at a meeting in Villefranche sur mer (France) on the 4 6 December 2006. The Preliminary Validation and Assessment Report includes the collated feedback from the combined user community and make merging algorithm recommendations for Phase 2 following a trade-off analysis. The validation results achieved at this stage of the project should be considered as a partial and preliminary exercise aiming at the consolidation of the methodology rather than a full scale validation which is currently taking place during the second Phase of GlobCOLOUR.

The PPS data set consists of four comparable one month data sets for each merging algorithm: July and October 2002, January and April 2003. The PPS includes level 3 merged products as daily, 8-days and monthly averaged products mapped on a common ISIN 4.63km grid.

Distributed merged products are:

For the open ocean case:

  • Chlorophyll-a (CHL1),
  • Total Suspended Matter (TSM),
  • Coloured dissolved and detrital organic materials (CDM),
  • Particulate back-scattering coefficient (bbp),
  • Diffuse attenuation coefficient (KD490),
  • Fully normalised water leaving radiances at 412, 443, 490, 510, 531, 550-565, 620, 665-670, 681 and 709 nm (Lxxx),
  • Relative excess of radiance at 555 nm (EL555),
  • Aerosol optical thickness over water (T865),
  • Cloud Fraction (CF).

Data is available for the two selected merging methods (GSM and Weighted Averaging).

The ftp directory structure is described below:

/product type (PPS)

/parameter type (CHL1, L412, EL555, CF...)

/MERGED

/merging mode (WEIGHTED | GMS)

/year (1997-2006)

/binning period (DAILY, 8DAYS, MONTHLY)

/products (L3b..., L3m...)

Note: the merging mode also contain the list of input data sensors (separated by an hyphen). Instruments accronyms are used: MER for MERIS, MOD for MODIS and SWF for SeaWiFS. Any combinaisons of these names is allowed (e.g. MER, MOD or SWF alone, MERMOD for merged MERIS and MODIS data, MERMODSWF for the merging of the three instruments data).

IMPORTANT NOTICE
All images and data available on this GlobColour website are for research and educational use only

Currently, the PPS files are accessible via a dedicated FTP service.

Use server ftp.fr-acri.com , login globcolour_data , password fgh678 for log-in.
Goto directory PPS
