The GlobColour Full Product Set (FPS v1.1) consists of a ten year series
of daily-, weekly- and monthly-binned level 3 merged data products, generated
using the best merging algorithm as selected through the trade-off analysis.
Three satellite data sources contribute to this dataset:
- the Medium Resolution Imaging Spectrometer Instrument (MERIS) aboard ENVISAT
- the Moderate Imaging Spectrometer (MODIS) on the Aqua Earth Observing System (EOS) mission
- the Sea-viewing Wide Field of view Sensor (SeaWiFS) on board OrbView-2
The time series covers the period 1997 to 2006 with a 4.64km resolution.
The validation also addresses the individual sensors level 3 binned products
used as input to the merging process and derived from the following level 2 products :
- SeaWiFS, time period 09/1997-12/2006, v5.1
- MODIS, time period 06/2002-12/2006, v1.1
- MERIS, time period 04/2002-12/2006, v2.0/Q
This document is the Full Validation and Assessment Report for the GlobColour EO service.
The aim is to document the validation of the quality of the Full Product Set composed of 10
years of merged ocean colour data from SeaWiFS, MODIS and MERIS, and according to the procedure
specified in the Validation Protocol, and tested on the Preliminary Product Set.
The document also includes a comparison of GlobColour products against merged
products developed within the NASA-REASoN project.
Comparison of merged Diagnostic Data Set (DDS) products and in situ measurements.
For a complete definition of DDS product, refer to
Product User Guide. To access
merged DDS products and in situ data, refer
to Data Access.
