GlobColour user consultation workshop
Villefranche sur mer, France, December 4-6, 2006
The first workshop
was held in Villefranche/Mer (France), on December 4-6, 2006. The meeting
took place in the citadelle of Villefranche sur mer, which
is close to the Laboratoire d'Océanographie de Villefranche
(LOV) premises. A similar user consultation meeting of another ESA-DUE
project, called Medspiration and devoted to the delivery of
harmonised sea-surface temperatures derived from diverse satellites (http://www.medspiration.org/),
was held jointly with the GlobColour workshop. .
Very positive user
feedback was received from more than 50 participants who attended the
workshop.
Fruitful exchanges occurred with external participants working on similar
initiatives (merging techniques, sensors characterisation ...) so that
GlobColour could be set in a wider context. Participants included scientists,
but also end user organisations interested in the products and near-real
time service for activities such as data assimilation into local and global
oceanographic models. Medspiration users reported on how SST products
are already being assimilated into ocean forecasting models and analysed
data products. We hope that their experience may point the way towards
applications of GlobCOLOUR. .
