The GlobColour project
started in November of 2005, after having been set up by the European
Space Agency Data User Element (ESA DUE).
The aim of GlobColour is the development of a 10-year global ocean color
data set by merging together information from four satellite sensors:
- ENVISAT/MERIS,
- AQUA/MODIS,
- OrbView-2/SeaWiFS and
Details about GlobColour
and the consortium in charge of its implementation and development are
available at http://www.globcolour.info.
The project organisation includes three institutional users, namely the
International Ocean Color Coordinating
Group (IOCCG), the International
Ocean Carbon Coordination Project (IOCCP), and the MetOffice/NCOF.
The GlobColour user
workshops (or user consultations) occur at the end of each
phase of the project and allow GlobColour to be visible to, and get feedback
from, a wider community than those directly involved (i.e., IOCCG, IOCCP
and NCOF representatives).
